And admittedly, this diet method sounds really easy and simple: in the morning and at noon drink a milk shake and watch the pounds shed instantaneously. You don’t even have to rely on small snacks or to forgo a dinner – as long as you don’t go over 600 calories. Some examples of dishes include salmon or turkey with rice in this meal plan.
It is possible to lose the weight following the Slim fast plan. Every day you decrease your caloric intake from 1,200 to 1,400 calories. Although all meals are replaced by liquid-Slim fast shakes, the body stays adequately supplied with nutrients. This special product that nutritionists developed, has vitamins, protein and fiber in a serving, and Slim fast has supposedly just as much iron as 200 grams of spinach, and as much vitamin C as half an orange. Each meal has only about 220 calories.
The product itself is a powder that you mix with a glass of skimmed, cold milk or you can just as easily buy ready to drink milk shakes. The drinks come in a variety of flavors including: chocolate, strawberry, vanilla or cappuccino.
Slim fast belongs to the group of Formula diets. These appear to be very practical, especially for people who travel regularly.
But Formula diets also have drawbacks. Not only does the finished product make it hard to switch back to regular meals, the Slim fast diet is known for causing the famous infamous Jojo effect. But Formula diets also create another danger; the rise of old eating habits, after replacement meals are gone. The artificial products can be healthy and fresh food is not a permanent replacement. Often the body will be lacking after long term dietary unsaturated fatty acids, which in turn affects the blood and cholesterol levels. The susceptibility to infection therefore increases.
But perhaps the biggest drawback is the price of Formula diets. 12 servings of Slim fast shakes costs about nine Euros.
This is however only one alternative to dieting. There are many other diets that may be more beneficial, but you should always be informed before trying any diet.
